Frequently Asked Questions
About the Practice
Q: What makes Capricorn Bodyworks different from a spa?
A: Capricorn Bodyworks is a clinical medical massage practice, not a spa. Our focus is results-driven therapeutic work — targeting the root cause of pain, tension, and dysfunction rather than general relaxation. Every session is tailored to your specific condition and goals, performed by licensed massage therapists with advanced training in deep tissue, neuromuscular, and medical massage techniques.

About the Services
Q: What is deep tissue massage and who is it for?
A: Deep tissue massage is a therapeutic technique that applies slow, sustained pressure to the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It's ideal for anyone dealing with chronic pain, muscle tension, injury recovery, or postural issues from prolonged desk work. Unlike a relaxation massage, deep tissue work is targeted and clinical — designed to address the root cause of discomfort rather than provide temporary relief.
Q: What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and who needs it?
A: Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique designed to stimulate the movement of lymphatic fluid through the body. It's particularly beneficial for post-surgical clients, those experiencing fluid retention or swelling, and anyone looking to support their immune system and reduce inflammation. The touch is light and superficial but highly effective when performed by a trained therapist.
Q: Is prenatal massage safe during the first trimester?
A: Yes — contrary to common myth, prenatal massage is safe throughout all three trimesters. The American Pregnancy Association recommends first trimester massage, and clinical studies support its benefits including reduced neck, back and hip pain, improved circulation, reduced cortisol levels, and better sleep.
Q: Can I receive deep pressure during pregnancy?
A: Absolutely. Barring any abnormal health conditions, deep pressure is safe throughout pregnancy and is actually preferred by most of our prenatal clients. We tailor the pressure to your comfort and condition at every session.
Q: What is neuromuscular therapy?
A: Neuromuscular therapy is an advanced form of soft tissue manipulation that targets trigger points — hypersensitive areas in muscle tissue that cause referred pain patterns throughout the body. It's particularly effective for chronic pain conditions, nerve compression issues, and postural imbalances. At Capricorn Bodyworks neuromuscular techniques are often incorporated into deep tissue sessions for enhanced results.
Q: What's the difference between deep tissue and sports massage?
A: Both modalities use firm pressure and target deeper muscle layers, but their focus differs. Deep tissue massage addresses chronic tension, adhesions and pain throughout the body. Sports massage is specifically designed for athletic performance and recovery — focusing on muscle groups used in specific activities, reducing recovery time, and preventing injury. Both are available at Capricorn Bodyworks and can be combined based on your needs.
Q: How long are your sessions?
A: We offer 60 and 90 minute sessions for all services. For clients with multiple areas of concern or those seeking more comprehensive treatment, the 90 minute session is recommended.
